Gull Feroza's Half-Century Fires Pakistan to Consolation Victory Over Netherlands
Gull Feroza's unbeaten 63 anchors Pakistan to a 37-run win over the Netherlands in Bristol, ending a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign on a high note as the Dutch collapse loses seven wickets for 13 runs.
Pakistan Women finally tasted victory at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, wrapping up their underwhelming campaign with a convincing 37-run win over the Netherlands at the Bristol County Ground on Saturday.
Batting first after being put in, Pakistan posted 126 for 6 in their 20 overs, built around an anchoring 63 not out from Gull Feroza. The all-rounder, who was named Player of the Match, played with maturity through the middle overs, stitching together a crucial 79-run second-wicket partnership with Ayesha Zafar (32) off just 61 balls. The stand rescued Pakistan from early pressure and provided the platform for a defendable total on a pitch that offered assistance to bowlers throughout the contest.
Netherlands' innings began promisingly but quickly unravelled. Caroline de Leede top-scored with 30, but the Dutch batting order capitulated dramatically in the final stages, losing their last seven wickets for just 13 runs to be bowled out for 89 in 18 overs.
Pakistan's bowling attack was spearheaded by captain Fatima Sana and Ayesha Zafar, who both claimed three wickets apiece. Sana delivered a devastating triple-wicket maiden as part of her figures of 3 for 12, tightening the screws when Netherlands were threatening to chase down the modest target. Zafar backed up with 3 for 13, claiming career-best figures in the format to seal Pakistan's first win of the tournament.
The victory offered little comfort for a side that had already been eliminated from the competition following successive defeats to India, South Africa, and Bangladesh earlier in the group stage. Pakistan entered this basement clash winless and under pressure, but the performance in Bristol at least provided a positive note to sign off on.
For the Netherlands, the collapse highlighted the gulf in experience that has defined their maiden T20 World Cup appearance. The Dutch side, who also arrived in Bristol without a win, showed flashes of competitiveness but lacked the depth to close out matches at this level.
Feroza's knock was the standout of Pakistan's campaign and a reminder of the talent within the squad. Speaking after the match, she described the innings as "important for the team and myself," reflecting the personal significance of a performance that will be remembered long after Pakistan's early exit.
